Federal Tax Credit
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 was signed into law in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With this law, Americans making qualifying energy-improvements to their homes or buildings can save $ on taxes. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) was amended in 2023 and will remain effective until December 31, 2032. It increases the tax credit limits for high-efficiency equipment as follows:
- Qualifying HVAC equipment may be eligible for 30% of project cost
- up to $600 for qualifying air conditioner or gas furnace
- up to $1,200 for any combination of qualifying home envelope improvements (furnaces, central air conditioners, boilers, windows, doors, skylights, insulation, electrical)
- up to $2,000 for qualifying combination of heat pumps, heat pump water heaters and biomass stoves/boilers
